Abstract
1344512 Coated low alloy steel members NIPPON STEEL CORP 21 April 1971 10453/ 71 Heading B2E [Also in Division C3] A waterproof low alloy steel member is coated with a film preventing the formation of floating rust until a compact stable rust is formed on the surface of the steel thereby preventing further corrosion of the steel, the film containing more than 30% of an oxide pigment, the pigment containing manganese dioxide in an amount more than 1% of the pigment. The film-forming component of the film is obtained from one or more resins such as acrylic resins and resins derived from styrol and phthalic acid, rubber solutions such as cyclised rubber, rubber chloride, coumarone resin and Thiokol (Trade Mark) resins. The oxide present besides the manganese dioxide may be iron oxide, copper oxide, titanium oxide or lead oxide. Sulphur may be present in the film-forming composition as elemental sulphur or as sulphur-containing compounds. Suitable sulphur-containing compounds are sulphates sulphides such as calcium sulphate, nickel sulphate, zinc sulphate, and copper sulphide or organic sulphides such as ebonite, and Thiokol.
