Abstract
1343949 Octenes ESSO RESEARCH & ENG CO 31 Dec 1971 60943/71 Heading C5E Octane feeds containing substantial quantities of triple-branched isomers are up-graded to give octenes containing not more than 15% triple-branched isomers by contact with an acidic catalyst at 300-500‹ F. and 100-1200 p.s.i. The reaction which is presumably a selective disproportionation and/or isomerization of the triple-branched isomers may be carried out using phosphoric acid impregnated on kieselguhr as catalyst. The octene feed may be obtained by the fractional distillation of olefins obtained by dimerizing butenes or butenes and propylene over a similar catalyst. The octane feed is preferably charged with water vapour in amount 200-4000 p.p.m. before contact with the catalyst.
