Abstract
134,343. Crawley, C. H. Nov. 5, 1918. Ploughs.-A tractor plough, of the type in which two land wheels at the fore end are mounted on crank-axles on two parallel crankshafts carried by the frame and connected to each other so that by turning the crank-axles angularly from one side to the other of the vertical plane the frame is lifted or lowered relatively to the wheels, has a notched wheel A secured to the inner side of one of the land wheels B. A bellcrank lever C<1>, C<2> is pivoted on the crank-shaft D of the wheel B, the end C<2> of the lever being provided with a cord E which may be pulled by the driver to move the lever against the tension of a spring F until the end C<1> which is hooked at its extremity engages one of the notches in the wheel A. When the notch is engaged by the lever, the wheel B is locked rigidly with the crank-arm, and, as the plough moves on, the arm G moves about the axis of the crank-shaft, forcing the frame upwards relatively to the wheels. A stop H<1> engages the lever arm C<2> when the crankarm has been moved through the necessary angle. The plough may be lowered by reversing its movement, keeping the wheel B locked to the arm G; or a tipping-arrangement as described in Specification 122,476 may be fitted. The other land wheel is moved simultaneously with the wheel B as described in the above-mentioned Specification. In a modification, a brake band is adapted to be moved by the pull of a cord to grip a brake drum secured to the wheel B.
