1343344 Seaming non-metallic sheet material; making plastics bags DZERZHINSKY ZAVOD PLASTICHESKIKH MASS 22 Sept 1971 44082/71 Headings B5K and B5D Apparatus for manufacturing valved bags from thermoplastic film a or fabric or paper having a thermoplastic film coating comprises two endless conveyer belts 5, 6 for continuously feeding the film a, a device A for folding the film to form a valve and a device B for welding the film a along a desired contour to form a valved bag, the device B including crosspieces 9 carrying heated welding elements 7, 8 above the lower run of the belt 5 and mounted on guides 10 for reciprocation perpendicular to the direction of motion of the film a, the guides 10 being mounted on carriages 11 12 reciprocable in the direction of motion of the film a. The cross-pieces 9 pass through the carriages 11, 12 and are secured to the frame 15. Reciprocation of the elements 7, 8 perpendicular to the direction of movement of the film a is effected by pneumatic cylinders 16 secured to the carriages 11, 12 and having rods 17 connected to the frames 15. Lowering of the rods 17 against return springs 20 is controlled by an air valve 18 acted on by a cam surface 19 during motion of the carriages. Reciprocation of the carriages 11, 12 in the direction of movement of the film a is effected by a nut 14 connected to the carriages 11, 12 and riding on a "doublethreaded" screw 13 drivingly connected to driving rollers 3 of the belts 5, 6 to impart to the carriages 11, 12 a velocity equal to the linear velocity of the belts 5, 6. In operation, the elements 7, 8 contact the film a through the lower run of the belt 5, which is of anti-adhesive material, and move with and at the same speed as the film a. A device C for severing individual welded bags is provided.
