Abstract

1343272 Flame-retardant polyolefin compositions NATIONAL DISTILLERS & CHEMICAL CORP 6 Jan 1972 [28 Jan 1971] 657/72 Heading C3P Flame-retardant compositions comprise (1) a crystalline olefin polymer, (2) an antimony compound and (3) 1,2,3,4,6,7,8,9,10,10,11,11- dodecachloro - 1,4,4a,5a,6,9,9a,9b-octahydro- 1,4 : 6,9-dimethanodibenzofuran in a weight ratio of dibenzofuran compound to antimony compound of at least 5 to 1. The polymer may be polyethylene, polypropylene, polybutene-1 or an ethylene/propylene copolymer. The antimony compound may be antimony trioxide, sulphide, pentoxide, organic acid salts, esters and alkali metal antimonites and antimonates. Conventional stabilizers, fillers, pigments and crosslinking agents may be present, and examples describe compositions comprising the dibenzofuran compound, antimony trioxide and (1 and 4 to 6) polyethylene, (2) polypropylene and (3) polyethylene, triallyl cyanurate, basic lead fumarate and 2,5-dimethyl-2,5-di(t.butylperoxy) hex-3-yne.
