Abstract
1342854 Purifying waste liquids INGENJORSFIRMAN VATTENANLAGGNINGER STIG LINDQVIST AB 14 June 1972 [14 June 1971] 27844/72 Heading C1C A method of purifying waste liquids containing biologically decomposable organic material and phosphorus compounds (e.g. sludge free sewage), comprises passing the waste liquid in the presence of oxygen or oxygen-containing gas (e.g. air or oxygen enriched air) through a bed containing iron and/or aluminium, in which microfiora capable of decomposing the organic material is formed and iron and/or aluminium is (are) dissolved to flocculate the phosphorus compounds, and separating (e.g. by settling or filtering) the floes from the purified sewage. Chromium compounds, if present in the waste liquid, are removed by the process. The bed may comprise inert material, e.g. macadam. In the Figure the waste liquid is passed from inlet 11 through bed 12 in counterflow to oxygen-containing gas from inlet 14 and the floes are separated in settling compartment 16.
