Abstract

1342725 Thermometers R B MARTIN 22 April 1971 [24 Jan 1970] 3532/70 Heading G1D An air temperature gauge for attachment to a windscreen or window to indicate the approach of freezing conditions comprises a housing 1, 2 in which is mounted a spirally wound bi-metallic temperature sensing element 12 and a temperature scale 4 arranged to move relatively to an observation window 3 in accordance with temperature changes, the housing being so securable to the windscreen or window as to define an insulating air space and being provided with an air vent 18. As shown, the temperature sensing element 12 has its inner end attached to a shaft 10 to which the scale 4 is secured and its outer end guided in a slot extending radially of the shaft 10 and defined by abutments (16) Fig. 3 (not shown) in the housing, the shaft 10 being secured to a cover 1 and panel 2 constituting the housing. The cover 1 may be transparent and the panel may be opaque but provided with the window 3 which is transparent and through which a part of the scale 4 is visible. The scale 4 may be transparent and provided with a coloured portion (5) for indicating the approach of freezing conditions. One face of the housing may be provided with an adhesive layer 7 for securing the gauge to the windscreen or window and such layer may be covered by a removable cover strip 8.
