1342433 "¢" key arrangements RICOH KK 19 April 1971 [4 Feb 1970] 21100/71 Heading G4B In a mechanical calculator including a number entry key representing the digit ¢, the "¢" key is locked against depression until one of the "whole number" entry keys has been depressed. The calculator shown is a modification of that described in Specification 1,055,977. Before any digit has been set up in the pin carriage 3 (Fig. 5), an operating bar 14 (Fig. 3) associated with the "¢" key is blocked by step 17B of lever 17. Setting a number into the pin carriage results in the shift of a slide 19 to the left, which rocks lever 17, to render the "¢" key operable, and shifts a slide 25 to the left, where it overlies a pivoted shoe 26 attached to the foot 6<SP>1</SP>A of the "¢" rack 6<SP>1</SP>, to prevent upward movement of the latter. Depression of the "¢" key displaces bar 14 which displaced position is held by step 21B of a spring-loaded lever 21, and a slide 16 is thus displaced to move shoe 26 out from under slide 25 and thus enable subsequent upward movement of the "¢" rack 6A. Depression of the "¢" key does not result in the setting of a pin in the pin carriage 3. During a subsequent calculating operation, upward movement of the "whole number" racks 6 (Fig. 5) is arrested by set pins 4 in the normal way, whereas upward movement of the "¢" rack 6<SP>1</SP> is arrested by a fixed stop (31, Fig. 4, not shown), the height of which corresponds to that of the pins 4 representing digit "5". Slides 19 and 25 are restored to their Fig. 3 positions by means not shown during printing. Lever 21 and hence bar 14, slide 16 and lever 17 are restored to their original positions by a bar 23 which is shifted when any number key other than the "¢" key is depressed, to trip lever 21. In the Fig. 3, position, a recess 25B in slide 25 allows passage of shoe 26 when rack 6<SP>1</SP> rises during a totalling or subtotalling operation and the accumulator (not shown) contains the digit "¢".
