Abstract

1341766 Air-knife apparatus for hot-dip galvanising ITALSIDER SpA 19 April 1971 [27 May 1970] 26555/71 Heading C7F Air-knife apparatus includes a pair of substantially horizontal headers 8 arranged opposite each other and each facing a metal sheet which emerges from a hot-dip zinc bath, each of said headers having a slot-shaped elongated nozzle defined by a lower lip 24 and an upper lip 23 and arranged to project a substantially flat fluid jet on to a face of said sheet, the lower lip 24 comprising a portion 26 of reduced thickness parallel to the front edge of said nozzle allowing the edge portion of 24 to deform thereabout, adjusting means 27 being provided along lip 24 to move it toward or away from lip 23. Typically, counter sunk screws 27 attached to threaded wheel 30 are moved up and down by rotating shaft 31 which bears a pinion to coact with wheel 30; the nozzle may be adjusted e.g. to be narrower at the sheet centre than at the edges.
