1341275 Conjugated diene-monoolefin alternating copolymerization MARUZEN PETROCHEMICAL CO Ltd 19 April 1971 [17 March 1970 (2) 24 July 1970 (2) 6 Nov 1970 (2)] 24278/71 Heading C3P Alternating copolymers of C 4-12 conjugated dienes and C 3-14 alpha monoolefins, some of which are novel, are obtained by copolymerization in the presence of (a) a trihydrocarbyl aluminium, (b) a compound containing the structure, where X is halogen and R is hydrocarbyl, and, optionally (c) a halogen or halogen compound other than (b). Component (b) may be obtained from a compound and a halogen compound. In examples the monomers are butadiene, isoprene, and pentadiene-1,3, and propylene, butene-1, pentene-1, hexene-1, styrene, and 4-methylpentene-1, and the catalysts are, typically (a) (i-C 4 H 9 ) 3 Al, Al(C 2 H 5 ) 3 , and Al(C 6 H 13 ) 3 , (b) TiCl 3 .OCO.CH 3 , Ti(O-iC 3 H 7 ) 2 (OCOCH 3 ) 2 or O[Ti(O.COCH 3 ) 3 ] 2 or together with various halogen or halogen compounds (c), TiCl 3 OCO.C 6 H 5 , TiCl 2 (OCOC 2 H 5 ) 2 , O[TiCl(OCOC 2 H 5 ) 2 ] 2 and TiCl(OCOC 2 H 5 ) 3 , and (c) SnCl 4 , BF 3 .O(C 2 H 5 ) 2 , C 6 H 5 CO.Cl, MoCl 5 , FeCl 3 , t-C 4 H 9 Cl, CrO 2 Cl 2 , AlCl 3 .O(C 2 H 5 ) 2 , Al.- C 2 H 5 .Cl 2 , and I 2 .
