Abstract

1340769 Preparation of 9α-chloro-11#- hydroxy-steroids SCHERING AG 19 April 1971 [7 March 1970] 23386/71 Heading C2U 9a-Chloro-11#-hydroxy-steroids are prepared by treating #<SP>9(11)</SP>-steroids in an inert anhydrous solvent of dielectric constant above 25 at 25‹ C. with t-butyl hypochlorite and perchloric acid. Suitable solvents are nitromethane, nitroethane and nitrobenzene. In the products acyloxy groups may be hydrolysed and hydroxy groups acylated.
