Abstract

1340386 Ammunition containers; infantry weapon SARMAC SA 13 May 1971 [21 May 1970] 14762/71 Headings F3C and F3A An infantry weapon comprises a tubular guide body for guiding a self-propelled projectile which is housed in a case, a control device for firing the projectile, and a device at the rear of the tubular guide body for locking the front end of the case in the weapon so that the case is located in an extension of the tubular guide body. Means are provided for releasing the case at or after the time of firing of the projectile and before the emergence of the projectile from the front end of the tubular guide body and allowing ejection of the case by the propulsion gases of the projectile. In an embodiment a weapon, Fig. 1, has three tubular guide bodies 1, 2 and 3, Figs. 3 and 5. Each of the latter has an extension 6 which receives a case 5 therein. The inside bore of each case contains a projectile 4, Fig. 6, and is the same size as the bore of each tubular guide body. The front end 7 of each case is held to a respective extension 6 by a member 8, Fig. 2, which is mounted on the respective guide body. The member 8 has a portion 9 which can pass through an orifice 10 formed in the extension 6 and into a groove 13 of the case 5. Release is effected by propulsion gases of the projectile which are decelerated by an inner peripheral shoulder 15, then pass through orifices 14 in the bottom of the groove 13 and through the orifice 10, or manually using a lever 17. When the member 8 is in the fastening position a switch closes an electrical circuit leading to an electrically-operated detonator 27, Fig. 7. Shoulders 16 on the case permit its ejection by the propulsion gases. In other embodiments the member 8 is pivotally mounted on the extension 6 and is urged by a spring, the member 8 has an extension which co-operates with a notched wheel 20 to arrest the return of the member 8 for a period of time sufficient to enable the ejection of the case, releasing of the case is effected mechanically, the case has a removable end having a plug therein and a cup connected thereto which engages the blast-pipe of the projectile, the case is provided with contact rings which are connected to an electrically-operated detonator, projectile-retaining means comprises a cup which is shrunk on to the blast-pipe of the projectile and tongues on a connecting member which engage the rear end of the case, projectileretaining means comprises a cup which is shrunk on to the blast-pipe of the projectile and is connected to the end of the case by a screw, projectible-retaining means comprises a plug which forms the end of the case and is forced into the blast-pipe of the projectile, folded-back stabilizer fins of the projectile have studs which are received in slots in the wall of the case, the folded-back fins are engaged by a fork carried by the case, and the folded-back fins are engaged by rivets mounted in the wall of the case, the rivets each having a machined portion which engages the fins and each having a hole therein through which a wire is passed so as to connect them together. The control device includes a firing distributer selector for the successive firing of the three projectiles. The selector is housed in the grip 24, Fig. 1, of the weapon which also contains an electromagnetic generator 25, Fig. 9, and which carries a safety device 26 and a trigger 23. The generator is connected to the electrically-operated detonators of the three projectiles.
