Abstract
134,008. Wilkinson, A. E. Oct. 21, 1918. Cutting and slicing vegetables &c.-A machine for cutting potatoes into chips comprises a frame a, in one or more parts, widened at its rear end to afford a housing for shafts d, d' and gearing e, e<1> and provided at its other end with slides f on which a plunger g reciprocates horizontally. The plunger forces the potatoes, which are fed from a hopper l, against knives j held in a vertical box i secured to the front of the frame a. Guides m control the position of the hopper on the frame, and a plate p secured to the top of the plunger prevents any potatoes from falling at the rear side of the plunger. An attachment g<1> with projecting pieces g<2> is secured to the front of the plunger and forces the potatoes clear of the knives. The plunger is connected by the rod o with a crank-pin w on the gear-wheel e which is driven by a wheel e<1> on a sleeve carrying a pulley which can be driven from any desired source of power, a belt-shipping device being provided. The wheel e<1> may be driven by hand.
