Abstract
1339411 Valves CESKOSLOVENSKA AKADEMIE VED 11 Jan 1972 [18 Jan 1971] 1264/72 Heading F2V [Also in Division B2] The discharge of a solid or a heavy liquid fraction through peripheral apertures 2 in the rotor 1 of a centrifuge for treating solids-liquid suspensions or mixtures of liquids is automatically effected by individual valve rods 8 the position of which relative to the apertures being controlled by associated elastically yieldable valve bodies 6 having a negligible volume compressibility and capable of being elongated or shortened in a radial direction with respect to the rotor axis due to increasing or decreasing centrifugal pressure exerted laterally on the valve bodies by the accumulated solid or heavy liquid fraction. The solids or heavy liquid-concentration space 4 of the rotor is divided into sector compartments A, B, C, D...each of which terminates in a discharge aperture 2. In each compartment, the respective valve body is inserted and anchored in a bracket 9 which is fixed to the rotor. The valve rod 8 is inserted through its respective body and is retained therein by an end piece 7. The valve body may be made of natural rubber, the specific weight of which may be adjusted by fillers so as to bring it as close as possible to the specific weight of the suspension or mixture being treated. Alternatively, the valve body may consist of an elastically deformable container filled with a liquid. In operation, each aperture 2 is normally closed by a valve rod 8. When the level of separated solid or heavy liquid fraction in each compartment reaches a level just radially inwards of that indicated by radius R 2 , it starts to compress the body 6 laterally and, as the level indicated by radius R 1 is reached, the body 6 has been compressed to allow it to elongate sufficiently to cause radially inner displacement of the valve rod 8 and opening of the aperture 2 for the discharge of the accumulated solid or heavy liquid fraction.
