133,836. Edwards, A. E., (Victory Piston Ring Manufacturing Co.). Dec. 12, 1918. Piston packing; piston-packing substitutes.-Packing for internal-combustion engines &c. consists of a middle ring D<1> of diamond section and side rings D<2> with V-grooves fitting the ring D'. The outer and inner peripheries of the ring D' are flattened and also the side edges, leaving channels d<0>. Lubricant collecting in these channels in the grooves d<3>, d<4> acts as a liquid seal. All the rings are split, preferably at an angle with the axis of the rings, and the splits are arranged to break joint. The gap in the middle ring is wider than those of the side rings.
