Abstract
1338137 Orienting and feeding articles VEREINIGTE DRAHTWERKE AG 19 April 1971 [7 April 1970] 25699/71 Heading B8S Rod-like articles are singled out and oriented by a rotating drum 22, Fig. 2, provided with a recess 26. The drum rotates at such a speed that the heap of articles remains at the bottom, but the one article in the recess 26 is carried upwards and held in position by centrifugal force. When the drum reaches the position shown in Fig. 5, the article drops out through a slot 28. Figs. 9, 9a illustrate how asymmetrical articles are oriented by means of a shallow recess 26. An agitator 31, Fig. 10, is provided for bolt-shaped articles. Fig. 11 shows a drum provided with a plurality of grooves 36 in each of which an article is oriented. The outlet slots may be adjacent each other so that the articles are discharged simultaneously, or they may be staggered to provide sequential discharge. Fig. 12 shows an embodiment in which the speed of rotation of the drum 33 is controlled by a cam disc 44 and a follower 54 which controls the driving motor. Articles are discharged down a shoot 47 when a flap 43 covering the discharge orifice is raised by a cam 39 and follower 41. The drum is slowed down as the recess passes through the heap of articles at the bottom, slightly decelerated when the recess is at the highest point of its travel and decelerated again when the recess is adjacent the discharge shoot. The cam disc makes one revolution for two revolutions of the drum. Thus, articles are discharged only during alternate revolutions of the drum.
