Abstract
1337759 Ammoxidation of saturated hydrocarbons; unsaturated nitriles MONSANTO CO 20 Dec 1971 [21 Dec 1970 1 Feb 1971] 59077/71 Heading C2C α,#-Ethylenically unsaturated nitriles are made by ammoxidation of C 3-12 saturated hydrocarbons CH(R) 2 CH(R)CH 3 , where each R is independently hydrogen or alkyl at 300-650‹ C., using a mixture of hydrocarbon, ammonia and oxygen in molar ratios of 1 : 0À5 : 0À5 to 1 : 6 : 8 respectively in the presence of a catalyst comprising essentially Ce and Mo in the atomic ratio 1-24 : 24 and optionally Bi or Te in the ratio of Bi or Te to Mo of 1-36 : 24, the elements present in the catalyst being combined with oxygen. The reaction may be carried out in the presence of 0À00005-0À1 mol. halogen per mol. saturated hydrocarbon present.
