1337567 Floor polish composition CIBAGEIGY AG 13 Nov 1970 [14 Nov 1969] 54218/70 Headings C3F C3R and C3P [Also in Division C4] A floor polish comprises an anhydrous solution containing at least 6 constituents which comprise, in amounts defined by wt. per cent of the total weight of the composition of: (A) 3-35% of a solid macromolecular compound which is film forming by itself or by admixing with 1-5% of a plasticizer and which has at 20‹ C. a Tukon hardness of at most 10 and, when plasticized with dibutyl phthalate in a weight ratio of 3 : 1 a Sward hardness of at least 2; (B) from 0À5 to 15% of a hard resin which is insoluble in hydrocarbon solvents and has a 20‹ C. Tukon hardness above 10 and, plasticized with dibutyl phthalate in a weight ratio of 3 : 1 a Sward hardness above 50, said resin being compatible with compound (A), above, and with constituents (D) and (E) below ; (C) 0-4% of a silicone oil having a 25‹ C. viscosity of 0À5 to 100,000 centistokes; (D) from 1-20% of a liquid plasticizer which has at 20‹ C. a viscosity of 50-100,000 centipoises, an acid number of at most 10, a refractive index of 1À350 to 1À550 at 20‹ C, a melting point below 15‹ C. and an evaporation rate such that when 0À1 gm. of the plasticizer is placed on a glass plate and is maintained at 20‹ C. and 760 Torr the plasticizer is not completely evaporated after 2 hours; (E) from 0À1 to 15% of a solid plasticizer which is compatible or miscible with plasticizer (D) and has a penetration index between 1 and 80 at 20‹ C., a melting point above 40‹ C. and an evaporation rate such that when 0À1 gm. of the plasticizer is placed on a glass plate and is maintained at 20‹ C. and 760 Torr the plasticizer is not completely evaporated after 2 hours, of less than 0À1 gm., the contents of constituent (E) being at most 20% of the total weight of constituents (A), (B) (D) and (E) taken together; (F) 25-90% of a C 1 -C 4 alkanol; (G) 1-45% of an organic solvent containing 0-2 hydroxyl groups per molecule, a melting point between 50‹ and 300‹ C., a viscosity at 20‹ C. below 30 centipoises and, when its molecule contains no hydroxyl group, an evaporation rate at 20‹ C. and 760 Torr such that when 0À5 ml. is placed on a glass plate it evaporates in less than 3000 seconds and when it contains 1-2 hydroxyl groups an evaporation rate at 20‹ C., 760 Torr of 0À5 ml. placed on glass plate of 34-3000 seconds, said solvent (G) being miscible with alkanol (F) in any proportion at room temperature; constituents (A), (B), (D) and (E) and when also present (C) forming clear solutions in the above-mentioned proportions in a mixture of (F) and (G), the composition optionally containing 0-5% of colouring matter, u.v. absorbants, perfumes, insecticides, bactericides, fungicides, inert materials and polytetrafluoroethylene. In the examples the substances used are (A) cellulose acetate or butyrate, ethyl cellulose, nitrocellulose, poly(vinyl acetate) poly(methyl methacrylate), hydroxypropylcellulose, poly(isobutyl methacrylate), poly- (butyl methacrylate), poly(propyl methacrylate), modified phenoplast resin, poly(alkylene amine) colophony, poly(vinyl butyral), polyurethane containing 65% linseed oil and polyurethane containing 65% safflower oil; (B) cyclohexanone/formaldehyde resin, poly(butyl methacrylates), abieto-fumaric resin, melamine resin, phenol-terpene resin, phthalic resins, urea-formaldehyde resin, styrene/maleic anhydric copolymer or solid silicone resins; (D) soft resin from colophony resin acids with diethylene glycol, sucrose acetobutyrate, carbamic acid soft resin, dimethylcyclohexylphthalate, melamine-formaldehyde resin, sucrose acetoisobutyrate, alkyd resin modified by non-drying fatty acids containing 23% of the latter and 31% of phthalicanhydride, cis-9-octadecen-1-ol, poly(propylene glycol), decyl oleate, alkyd resin modified with castor oil, dioctyl sebacate, didecyl phthalate, glycerol monooleate, glycerol dioleate, refined castor oil, unmodified non- drying alkyd resin, chlorinated diphenyl, methyl abietate or trioctyl phosphate; (E) hexyl dodecanol, octyl dodecanol, dicyclohexyl phthalate, hydrogenated castor oil, cetyl alcohol and some triazines of specified structure.
