Cold and heat retaining vessels.-Relates to the protective casings of vacuum flasks, and consists in forming them of single sheets 1, having protuberances or indentations 2, bent into a cylindrical casing and soldered along overlapping edges 9 and along the lower edge 8 to a flanged base disk 7, which may or may not have protuberances. The protuberances are all in staggered relation as regards vertical and horizontal directions. At the top, the sheet 1 may have a flattened screwthreaded margin for the attachment of the usual cap 10; or a flat margin may take a flanged cap with a thread engaging the flask. Several patterns of corrugation are described, in addition to the circular indentations and protuberances shown in Fig. 1, which alternatively may be rectangular, including a herring-bone arrangement, a design of parallel-fluted hexagons, or parallel spiral ridges. The protuberances and indentations may be produced by the passage of metallic, card, pulpboard, or laminated paper sheets for the cases between rollers formed with suitable dies.
