Abstract
133,598. Link, R. P. March 6, 1919. Spray carburettors.-Apparatus for humidifying, filtering, and if desirable impregnating the air or charge, comprises a vessel a divided by a perforated plate b into an upper and lower chamber, the latter containing water to moisten wicks c which protrude through the perforations into the upper chamber which may be provided with baffles. The cover d has, formed therein, inlet passages e, e<1> and outlet passages f, f<1> controlled by a valve g. The inlet e is fitted with a control valve and filtering device comprising relatively adjustable ported sleeves m, k surrounded by a cup i and perforated casing u packed with fibrous material t. The ported sleeves may be actuated from a distance, through a worm and quadrant and flexible shaft o actuated by a pointer moving over a graduated dial. The valve g may be set to cause the air or charge to pursue the course e, e<2>, e<1>, upper chamber f<1>, f<2>, f, or it may cut out the humidifier altogether. The material t may be saturated with a liquid to impregnate and enrich the charge. The upper chamber may communicate with the carburettor air inlet or the auxiliary air supply.
