1334993 Package wrapping apparatus RELIANCE ELECTRIC CO 10 May 1972 21773/72 Heading B8C In a manually operable package wrapping apparatus film web made of plastics such as PVC, unwound from a roll 14 supported by a stand 13 and passing over a shelf-structure 16, beneath a pair of spaced nip-rolls 25, 25 mounted between the spaced side arms 24, 24 of a snubber 22, and above a rod 18 and a cutter blade 22, has its end portion partially wrapped by an operator 28 around a package 10. The arms 24, 24 of the snubber 20 are pivoted at 28 to the side members of the table surface 29 of the stand 13 and are connected by links 31 to a frame 32 which is pivoted at 33 to the table side members and which carries a package rest 36 and a knife guard 35. When the operator presses the package 10 downwardly on to the rest 36 the frame 32 pivots to pull the snubber 20 in the same direction about the pivots 28 by means of the links 31, and against the action of one, or two, springs 27. The nip rolls 25, 25 engage the web 15 on either side of the blade 22 which severs the stretched web when notches 42 in the arms 24, 24, engage with the web 15 around the rod 18. A knife guard 26 surmounts the nip rolls 25, 25 and the roll 18 is covered with a plastics which adheres to the plastics of the web. In a modification, Figs. 7-9 not shown, the knife guard (82) is pivoted to the cross member (81) which carries the blade (22) and is linked at (85), to the movable frame (32) for pivotal movement of the latter. In a further modification, Figs. 4-6 not shown, the snubber is fixed and comprises a snubber plate (51) on the front of the table (45) and a rearwardly spaced vinyl-covered cross member (52) the blade (56) being mounted upon a pivoted frame (58) which is movable upward by a spring-loaded bell-crank lever mechanism (66, 68) and which carries the package rest (64), the mechanism (66, 68) carrying stops (75, 76) which limit respectively the upper and lowermost limits of movement of the blade (56). The apparatus is primarily intended for wrapping trays of fresh food products such as meat, poultry, &c.
