Abstract

1333378 Measuring pressure electrically NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP 6 Jan 1971 [7 Oct 1969] 49191/69 Heading GIN A test fluid pressure P1 Fig. 2 and a reference fluid pressure P2 are applied alternately to a pressure transducer 5, the resulting output signal being processed to give an AC voltage whose amplitude is proportional to the pressure difference. The alternation is obtained by cam-operated chopper bars 12, 15 and the output signal is synchronously gated Fig. 3 to avoid the transients. To measure venous pressure a tube 21 Fig. 5 of a catheter is inserted into a blood vessel, the catheter comprising a closed tube 20 from which tube 21 protrudes, and a tube 22. Tubes 20, 22 contain flushing fluid and are open to the atmosphere to provide the reference pressure P2. An additional tube 23 removes overflow fluid. The fluid flushing operation is also synchronously gated to occur only when the output signal is cut off. (For Figures see next page)
