Abstract
1333253 Polymer complexes W SHIMOKOWA 18 Dec 1970 [20 Dec 1969 10 April 1970] 60188/70 Heading C3P A water-soluble polymer complex is formed between (a) 5-500 parts by weight of a copolymer having 99-40% (mol.) of units of the formula -CH 2 -CR<SP>1</SP>R<SP>2</SP>- where R<SP>1</SP> is H, Cl or CH 3 and R<SP>2</SP> is H, Cl, -CH 3 , -OCOR<SP>3</SP>, -OR<SP>3</SP>, -COOR<SP>3</SP>, phenyl, tolyl, -CN, -CONH 2 , -CONHCH 2 OH, -CH 2 OH, -CH 2 CH 2 OH, -OH or pyridyl and R<SP>3</SP> is C 1 -C 8 alkyl and 1-60% of units of the formula where X, Y and Z are each H, CH 3 , -COOR<SP>4</SP> or -COOH and R<SP>4</SP> is C 1 -C 4 alkyl and (b) 100 parts of a nonionic, cationic or amphoteric surface active agent. Many copolymers and surface active agents are exemplified, mixture being effected with the solid copolymer or in aqueous dispersion or in solution in water, methanol, toluene, acetone, ethyl acetate or mixtures thereof. The products in aqueous solution are useful as such as adhesives or flocculants and in some examples there are also included additives selected from trimethanolamine, polysodium acrylate, aqueous ammonia, urea, polyvinyl alcohol, methyl vinyl ether/ maleic anhydride copolymer, ethyl acetate, methanol and toluene in forming adhesives. Alkaline neutralizing agents may also be added to the aqueous solutions.
