Abstract
1333035 Tris-(trimethylsiloxy)-phenylsilane BAYER AG 14 July 1972 [16 July 1971] 33098/72 Heading C3S Tris-(trimethylsiloxy)phenylsilane is prepared by hydrolysis of a mixture of trimethylmonochlorosilane and monophenyltrichlorosilane in a molar ratio of 3À3 : 1 to 4 : 1 by the gradual addition of water in excess and in the presence of 0À2 to 12À0 mols. of hexamethyldisiloxane per mol. of monophenyltrichlorosilane. The hexamethyldisiloxane may be previously stirred with 1 to 20% weight of an acid equilibration catalyst such as sulphuric acid or merely stirred with such catalyst at an elevated temperature below its boiling point. Alternatively the hexamethyldisiloxane may be produced in situ, e.g. by adding sulphuric acid to the reaction mixture to convert a suitable excess of the trimethylmonochlorosilane reactant. Preferably sulphuric acid is warmed to 50‹ C. with hexamethyldisiloxane for 30 minutes, phenyltrichorosilane is gradually added, followed by addition of trimethylchlorosilane at 30‹ C. and lastly stirring in of water at room temperature over a prolonged period of time.
