Abstract

133,265. Hauman, A. W. April 30, 1919. Rectal appliances.-An instrument for the removal of hµmorrhoids and the resection of prolapsus recti comprises a body portion R which is inserted in the rectum with the slanting or coned portion P inwards. After an incision has been made at the junction of the skin and the mucous' membrane, the instrument is pushed well in by a cross-bar H and is then drawn forward again with the hµmorrhoids covering the face of the instrument. Fixing needles G1, G2, G3 are then introduced through holes C formed just behind a collar A which is grooved at D and formed with a series of slits E, which are smaller in diameter than the holes C. The part W to be removed is tied by a silk ligature L' in the groove D, and then cut away flush with the face of the instrument. Sutures Z are inserted through all the vacant holes and then each fixing needle is threaded with a double length suture L3 which is cut in the middle to give two sutures in situ. A detachable mirror may be inserted in front of the cross-bar.
