1332646 Making tubing; rolling JOHNSON MATTHEY & CO Ltd 13 Jan 1971 [4 Feb 1970] 5456/70 Headings B3A and B3M A decorated tube, such as a rolled gold tube which is to be used in making tubular links for a watch strap or bracelet, is rolled in two or more stages and is provided during at least the final rolling stage with an embossed pattern on its outer surface. In an example, a circular tube is rolled between pairs of rollers to give it a rectangular cross-section, the tube is mounted on a mandrel, and one of the faces of the tube is patterned by rolling it between a pair of rollers, one of which is patterned. The tube is then cut into short lengths to form the links. The pattern can simulate linen or bark, and during the embossing step the mandrel can be lubricated by grease, wax, or oil; in one example the tube is coated internally with soap, and the mandrel with beeswax.
