Abstract

1332505 Lactide-glycollide copolymer filaments ETHICON Inc 16 Oct 1970 49333/70 Heading B5B [Also in Divisions C3 and A5] Surgical aids in the form of multifilament yarns, braided filamentary structures or annealed cast films are prepared from a lactideglycollide copolymer comprising 65-85 mole% or repeating units derived from one optical isomer of α-hydroxypropionic acid and 15-35% of repeating units derived from hydroxyacetic acid, the copolymer having an inherent viscosity of at least 1À0 (measured in 0À1% benzene solution at 25‹C), a tensile strength of at least 25,000 p.s.i. and losing at least 20% of its weight when treated with boiling water for 100 hours. The filaments are prepared by melt-spinning and drawing at a temperature of 50-140‹C.
