Abstract
1332484 Transferring between endless conveyers SERVICE D'EXPLOITATION INDUSTRIELLE DES TEBACS ET DES ALLUMETTES 22 Dec 1970 [24 Dec 1969] 60742/70 Heading B8A A device for conveying cigarettes comprises an endless belt conveyer 1 from which the cigarettes are transferred to a permeable endless belt conveyer 4 under whose upward run is a suction chamber 9 having an opening 8, the cigarettes being held on the conveyer 4 by the suction until they reach a second permeable endless belt conveyer 12 under a part of which lies a suction chamber 11, such that on passing the end of the chamber 9 the cigarettes leave the conveyer 4 and are applied against the conveyer 12 under the action of the suction in the chamber 11 and are conveyed on the belt 12 in the direction of the arrow 18 to a packing machine (not shown). If the packing machine is unable to absorb the cigarettes from the conveyer 12 the vacuum is switched from the chamber 11 to a second suction chamber 14 under the conveyer 4 which causes the cigarettes to remain on the conveyer 4 and to proceed in the direction of the arrow 17 to be placed in reserve or else transferred to another packing machine. In a second embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), a second conveyer (21) is placed opposite the conveyer (4), the chamber under the upward run of the conveyer (4) being divided into four compartments (22)-(25), the second compartment (25) being connected to the same vacuum source as the chamber (27) of the conveyer (21), the fourth compartment (24) being connected to the same vacuum source as the chamber (11) of the conveyer (12), such that by interchanging vacuum between the said associated chambers it is possible to transfer cigarettes from the conveyer (4) to either of the two conveyers associated therewith. In a third embodiment, Fig. 3 (not shown), cigarettes are transferred from a first conveyer (32) to a second conveyer (34) until a detector (38) associated therewith is raised and actuates a contact (46) which interrupts the suction in the chamber (36) associated with the conveyer (34), the cigarettes then being transferred to a third conveyer (35) associated with a storage container (39).
