1331936 Cash box UNITED GAS INDUSTRIES Ltd 17 Dec 1970 [17 Dec 1969] 61385/69 Headings E2A and E2X [Also in Division G4] A cash box 1 (Figure 1) comprises a body formed of two end walls 3, 4 and a cylindrical side wall 2, a coin entry opening 6 in the side wall, and a shutter 5 mounted within the cash box body. The shutter and body are rotatable relative to one another about the longitudinal axis of the side wall 2 between positions in which the coin entry opening 6 is obstructed and unobstructed by the shutter 5. A lock 7a is connected to the shutter for locking it relative to the cash box body when the opening 6 is obstructed, the lock being releasable by a key to permit the relative rotation. As described for use in a meter 8, the key 12 is mounted in the meter 8 and the coin entry opening 6 is automatically unobstructed or obstructed respectively on inserting and removing the cash box 1 from the meter. Shutter 5 is supported by a barrel lock 7a and an end wall 3 of the cash box. The cash box 1 is guided into the meter 8 by pins 10 and bayonet slots 11, 13. The shutter 5 is then held stationary by key 12 while the cash box body is rotated to bring the coin entry opening 6 to an upper, unobstructed position. Simultaneously, an abutment 17 rotates a spring- urged shutter (15) (see Figure 2, not reproduced) mounted in the meter 8, to a position allowing coins to leave the coin freed mechanism of the meter 8 and enter the cash box 1. The cash box 1 is locked against removal by a lock and key, or a padlock. During removal of the cash box, a coin scoop 24 prevents coins from jamming the shutter. In a second embodiment (see Figure 5) the barrel lock 7a is mounted on a support plate 32. An end cap 4 has a non-symmetrical aperture shaped to allow the lock 7a and shutter 5 to be removed from the cash box for emptying, when rotated by a loose key 12.
