Abstract
1331404 Thiophenols BAYER AG 6 April 1972 [7 April 1971] 15954/72 Heading C2C A thiophenol of the formula wherein n is 0 or an integer from 1 to 5, and R is OH, NO 2 , halogen, C 1 -C 6 alkyl, C 1 -C 6 alkoxy, NH 2 , monoalkylamino or dialkylamino, the radicals R being identical or different when n is from 2 to 5; optionally in the form of a thiophenolate, is obtained by reacting a corresponding phenylsulphonic acid chloride, in a first step, with H 2 NNH 2 , HI and HCl at a temperature from 0 to 40 C. to give the sulphonehydrazide, reacting this product, in a second step, at a temperature from 60 to 120 C. to give the corresponding disulphide, and reacting this product, in a third step, with H 2 NNH 2 and alkali at a temperature from 60 to 120 C. in a solvent to form a thiophenolate from which the thiophenol is liberated with a mineral acid. Examples are given for the production of the compounds.
