Abstract

1331107 Heat shields RICOH KK 23 Dec 1970 [28 Dec 1969] 61239/70 Heading G2A A photo-copying apparatus having an original table 1 and a light source 5 is provided with a heat shield plate 11 movable between a first (dotted line) position between the lamp and the table, and a second (solid line) retracted position in which the table is exposed to the light source, there being means operable to maintain the plate 11 in its first position until the light source has reached its operative state after energization, whereupon the plate is moved to its second position, As shown, the apparatus is of the scanning type, having the source 5 mounted on movable means 2 containing mirrors 6, 8, 9 and a lens 6. The plate is biased by a spring (20), Fig. 2 (not shown) towards its first position until, after energization, the source 5 reaches its operative state, whereupon a solenoid (21) is energized pivoting a lever (18) against the spring (20) thereby retracting the shield plate 11. The table 1 is thus exposed to light and the means 2 simultaneously begins to scan the table. The solenoid is de-energized when the means 2 has finished its advance stroke. In another embodiment Figs. 4-7 (not shown), an arcuate plate (41) is pivotally mounted for movement with the light source (5), and is biased towards its retracted position. A latch is provided to retain the plate (41) in its first position, the latch being released by operation of a solenoid (55) when the source reaches its operative state, and being automatically reset as the exposure means returns of its start position.
