Abstract
1330858 Feeding extruder branch passages WINDMOLLER & HÍLSCHER 28 Oct 1970 [11 Nov 1969] 51224/70 Heading B5A [Also in Division B1] Each branch feed passage 12, 12<SP>1</SP> (or more) leading to a respective extrusion die, is supplied with thermoplastics or non-cross-linked elastomeric material from the main feed passage 11 of an extruder at the outlets of a plurality of laminar channels 4, 4<SP>1</SP> located in parallel planes and which have their inlets in the passage 11 and the outlets of consecutive channels opening into a different branch passage. In the preferred embodiment, the channels 4, 4<SP>1</SP> are milled in the opposed faces of a plurality of plates 3 assembled on rods 7, to form one of the channels 4, 4<SP>1</SP> between each adjacent plate pair, the inlets and outlets of each channel being of blade-like configuration 13 and extending across the full width of the passages 12, 12<SP>1</SP> and 11. This arrangement maintains in the branch passages 12, 12<SP>1</SP> the same transverse temperature distribution as in the passage 11, and provides for some evening out of temperature through the thin walls of the plates between the superimposed portions of the channels 4, 4<SP>1</SP>. Further evening out of temperature of the material may be provided by a heat exchanger which divides the flow into a plurality of parallel laminar flows which are led crosswise past one another. Alternatively, improved evening out of the temperature is obtained if the inlet of each passage 4 or 4<SP>1</SP> extends across only half the width of passage 11, with heat exchange windows of good conductivity separating the superimposed channels 4, 4<SP>1</SP>.
