Abstract

1330733 Organopolysiloxane compositions DOW CORNING Ltd 7 June 1972 [21 June 1971] 28950/71 Heading C3T [Also in Division C5] A polishing composition comprises wax and (a) 0À2-10% wt. of (i) a polyorgano-siloxane of unit general formula RnSiO( 4-n ) 12 , wherein n has an average value of 1À8-2À1 and in which 0À25-10% of the total R substituents are -R<SP>1</SP>NHX and/or -R<SP>1</SP>NHCH 2 CH 2 NH 2 , in which R<SP>1</SP> is a divalent C 3-4 hydrocarbon radical, and X is hydrogen or a C 1-9 alkyl radical, the remaining R groups being monovalent hydrocarbon radicals and C 1-4 alkoxy radicals, not more than 20% of the remainder being alkoxy radicals, and/or (ii) an acid salt of (i), and (b) 0À1-5% wt. of a resin copolymer comprising SiO 2 and (CH 3 ) 3 SiO 0À5 units in the ratio of 0À7:1 to 2À4:1, the proportions of (a) and (b) being based on the total weight of the composition. The acid salts (ii) may be obtained by reacting the amino-substituted polyorganosiloxane with the appropriate acid, e.g. formic, acetic, propionic, oxalic, malonic, benzoic, HCl, HI, H 3 PO 4 and H 2 SO 4 acids. The viscosities of the polyorganosiloxanes and their acid salts may range from 100-100,000 eS at 25‹ C. Examples are suitable waxes include microcrystalline wax, polyethylene wax, beeswax, carnauba wax, ozokerite, Montan wax and paraffin wax. The compositions are preferably aqueous based and take the form of oil-in-water emulsions. In the example, a polish is prepared by mixing 3 mixtures A, B, C comprising by weight (A) wax 5 parts; oleic acid 5 parts; polydimethylsiloxane (350 cS at 25‹ C.) 3 parts; white spirit 20 parts; (B) an amino-silicone, 1 part, comprising a trimethylsiloxy end-stopped copolymer of 95 mol. per cent (CH 3 ) 2 SiO- units and 5 mol. per cent methyl (beta-aminoethyl-gammaamino-isobutyl) siloxane units of viscosity 3,000 cS at 25‹ C.; a resin copolymer, 1 part, comprising a 50% by wt. solution in white spirit of a copolymer of (CH 3 ) 3 SiO 0À5 units and SiO 2 units in the ratio of 0À87:1; white spirit 5 parts; (c) morpholine 2 parts; water 48 parts; colour 10 parts of an abrasive is added to the composition. Uses.-Automobile polish.
