Abstract

1329248 Cross-linkable vinyl chloride resins DOW CORNING Ltd 27 Nov 1970 [2 Dec 1969] 58833/69 Heading C3P A cross-linked resin is obtained by bulk polymerization of vinyl chloride and a silicon monomer of the formula ASiR n X 3-n where A is a non-conjugated unsaturated group, R is hydrocarbon free from unsaturation, X is a hydrolysable organic radical and n is 0, 1 or 2 and exposing the polymer to water in the presence of a siloxane condensation catalyst. In examples vinyl chloride is polymerized with vinyl triethoxysilane, vinyl methyl diethoxysilane and vinyl trimethoxysilane. The products are compounded with a stabilizer and a hydrolysis catalyst which may be identical and crosslinked with water, preferably steam. Additives in the examples are Cd/Ba laurate, a phosphite chelating agent and dibutyl tin dilaurate (catalyst/stabilizer).
