Abstract

1328837 Tobacco-smoke filters LIGGETT & MYERS Inc 18 Dec 1970 [26 Feb 1970] 60291/70 Heading A2C [Also in Divisions B5 and B8] Apparatus for introducing granular filter material into the spaces between cigarette filter elements 27, e.g. of fibrous material, on a moving paper strip 27, comprises a rotary wheel provided with a plurality of cavities 12 elongated circumferentially of the wheel, and a plurality of pistons 22 movable radially of the wheel within their respective cavities. Each cavity may have a section perpendicular to the reciprocable axis of the respective piston of rectangular or elliptical shape. When each cavity approaches the discharge station a hammer 15 engages and moves the respective piston to its material ejection position. Return of each piston to its material receiving position is achieved by a cam 18 so that the empty cavity can receive material from hopper 19.
