Abstract

1328476 Oximes TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORP 24 Feb 1972 [6 May 1971] 8490/72 Heading C2C N-paraffin oximes are prepared by reacting a n-paraffin (14-50 C) at from 30‹ to 140‹ F.) with a nitrosating agent in the presence of a chloro- or fluorohydrocarbon organic solvent under the influence of light of wavelength 200 to 700 millimicrons. Hydrocarbons up to npentacentane and those obtained from urea dewaxing of middle distillates and from refined wax are mentioned, and nitrosyl halides, sulphuric acid and nitric oxide and chlorine may be the nitrosating agents. Carbon tetrachloride, chloroform, tetrachlorethane, pentachlorethane and perfluorocarbons may be the solvents and a light emission of from 550 to 650 millimicrons from a sodium lamp is preferred. The oxime may be recovered by contacting with concentrated polybasic acid, sulphuric or phosphonic, and neutralizing the recovered salt followed by separating and recovering the oximes. Examples describe the reaction of acid treated C 19-33 refined wax.
