Abstract
132,809. Nutter, C. P. July 9, 1915, [Convention date]. Cutting and slicing vegetables.-A machine for cutting potatoes &c. into slices, strips, or cubes comprises a plunger 13 sliding on the bed 11 and co-acting with horizontal knives 16, and a second plunger .22 operating in a chamber 18 in connexion with two sets of knives 24, 26 arranged at right-angles. The plunger 13 is operated by the cross-bar 40 carried between links 36 attached to the rooking frame 30 and handle 32. The lost motion between the bar 40 and the shoulders 34, 35 allows the plunger 13 to remain stationary until the plunger 22 has been raised clear of the knives 16, and on the return stroka until the plunger 22 has descended upon the vegetable which has been forced into the chamber 18. The bar 40 is prevented from rising by lugs 38 engaging below flanges 39. The plunger 22 is actuated by the slot 29 in the frame 30 engaging a trunnion 20. When the trunnion 20 leaves the slot 29 at the top of the stroke it is engaged by the cam face 33 to keep the plunger stationary. Either or both the sets of knives 24, 26 may be removed to vary the form of the product, each set being secured in a frame and placed under tension by means of screws engaging one of the transverse rods 40<x>.
