Abstract

1327802 Rotary filter drums DORROLIVER Inc 21 Aug 1970 [28 Aug 1969] 40348/70 Heading BID An inward flow rotary vacuum drum filter 10, Fig. 1, is mounted for rotation within a pulp tank 13a by means of end trunnions 12, 13 and comprises external filtrate compartments 11 arranged side by side around the drum periphery. In one form each compartment 11 has a "trailing end" filtrate drainage pipe 19 connected to end trunnion 13, and a "leading end" filtrate drainage pipe 15 connected to end trunnion 12. The pipes are selectively connected to vacuum control means which admits vacuum through the trailing end pipe to the compartments whilst they ascend through a predetermined zone, closes the vacuum therefrom when the same pipes descend through a predetermined zone. The vacuum supply to the leading end pipes being similar but oppositely effected. The vacuum control means comprises a grooved end plate located in each trunnion 12, 13 each groove being in communication with the respective set of pipes 15 or 19, the pipes being disconnected from vacuum as they pass through the zone of the groove which is blocked by arcuate segments, e.g. 17c, Fig. 8. In another embodiment, Fig. 12 (not shown) both the "trailing" and "leading" pipes are connected to the same trunnion with a selectively operable vacuum control. In another embodiment, Fig. 20 (not shown) the vacuum control is provided by stationery cams activating individual valves provided in the pipes. Additional arcuate segments may be provided to form ports between themselves in the groove which allow for blow-off of the filter cake. The cake may be scraped off by doctor blades and may also be washed. A filter aid in the form of a drum pre coat may be used.
