1327569 Stamping L SCHULER GmbH 20 March 1972 [25 March 1971] 12923/72 Heading B3Q [Also in Division B5] The stopping distance a of a press ram 15, e.g. of a car body press, after application of a brake is sensed by a mechanical sensor 13 the movement of which is transmitted to elements for recording the stopping time. The sensor 13 may be mounted on a rack 7 meshing with a pinion 6 which drives a generator or alternator 5 connected to an electronic tune clock 21. A bracket 3 supports the device on a stand 1, 2 and is adjustable so that at position A of the ram, when the driving crankshaft is at 90 degrees from dead centre, a scale 8 on the rack is at zero with reference to the top of the bracket. Contacts 18, 19, which are closed, are connected in the emergency stopping circuit of the press. The sensor 13 is withdrawn and re-inserted during the next down stroke of the ram. An emergency stop is effected when the contacts 18, 19 are opened, the stopping distance a being measured at 8 and timed at 21. Instead of a rotary generator, an induction coil (22), Fig. 2 (not shown), may be used through which passes the sensor rod, part of which is non-magnetic. The stopping time may be read at the control desk of a press.
