Abstract

1327373 Electric discharge tubes TECHNICON INSTRUMENTS CORP 14 Sept 1970 [13 June 1969] 30185/69 Heading G2J A plurality of electrodeless discharge tubes L 1 to L 3 are sequentially excited by microwave or radio frequency radiation so that they emit pulses of radiation. A continuously rotating filter wheel 7 co-operates with a photo-electric device 9 to generate a pulse every time a filter aligns with a photo-multiplier 8. The pulse is fed to a shaper 10 and gate 11 which, in co-operation with a microwave power supply 1, causes power to be fed sequentially to magnetron tubes 21 to 23 which excite the discharge tubes L 1 to L 3 so that they emit pulses of radiation. The arrangement may be such that the discharge tubes emit continuous unmodulated radiation interspersed with pulses of modulated radiation.
