Abstract
1327257 Toy vehicles AIRFIX PRODUCTS Ltd 15 Oct 1971 [25 Nov 1970] 56066/70 Heading A6S A toy vehicle of the kind comprising a wheeled chassis 10 powered by, e.g. an electric motor, has within a recess 19 of the chassis a replaceable cam disk 2 driven by the motor and coupled to the steering wheels F so as to change the direction of travel of the vehicle, the cam disk being retained in place by a hand-operated latch 26. The motor is contained in a compartment 13, and is connected to batteries in cradles 12 on each side of the chassis. Gears 14a transmit drive to the road wheels R, one of the latter carrying an eccentric 15 engaged by the forked end 16 of a rod 17 thereby reciprocated to step a drive disk 20 around, reverse rotation of the later being prevented by a one-way detent 24. A spindle 21 fast with the drive disk 20 extends into the recess 19 open to the bottom of the chassis to receive one of the disks 25, held in driving engagement with the spindle by a transverse latch lever 26 extending across it. A pin 27 at one end of a lever 28 engages in a cam groove G in the cam disc 25, the other end of the lever 28 engaging between pins 34 on a steering track rod 32 controlling the steering wheels F. A dwell point (35), Fig. 6 (not shown) on the periphery of the cam disk 25 is engaged by spring contacts 36 in the motor control circuit, to switch off the motor after one revolution of the cam disk. A number of cam disks 25 having different shape cam grooves G may be provided, replacement being effected by pivoting the latch lever 26 to one side to open the compartment 19. Three V-notches in the track rod 32 are engaged by a spring blade 33 to define three separate steering positions. The chassis 10 consists of a platform with longitudinal ribs 11 along each side, beyond which the battery compartments 12 are located.
