Abstract

1327108 Carbodiimide-linked polymeric foam BASF WYANDOTTE CORP 21 Dec 1970 [13 April 1970] 60699/70 Headings C3C and C3R Process for preparing a rigid cellular foam characterized by the presence of carbodiimide linkages, as disclosed in Specification 1,326,240, with, however, the difference that a co-catalyst is used along with the 2,4,6-tris-(dialkanolamino) - s - triazine. The co-catalyst is a 1,3,5 - tris(N,N - dialkylaminoalkyl) - s - hexahydrotriazine, preferably 1,3,5-tris (N,N-dimethyl - 3 - aminopropyl) - s - hexahydrotriazine. The catalyst preferably has a composition such that the weight ratio of triazine to hexahydrotriazine is between 1 : 7 and 7 : 1. The reaction is exothermic and requires no external heat. Plasticizers, surfactants (such as polysiloxane) and fillers (such as CaO, CaCO 3 and BaSO 4 ) may be present in the product.
