Abstract
1326326 Dewaxing oils TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORP 9 Nov 1971 [21 Dec 1970] 51877/71 Headings C5C and C5E Wax is separated from waxy oil by heating to a temperature above the melting point of the wax, shock chilling the oil at a rate between 100‹ and 1000‹ F./min. to 80 to 150‹ F. by adding a solvent having complete solvent action on the oil, chilling the mixture at 0.3‹ to 3.0‹ F/min. by indirect heat exchange to 0‹ to 15‹ F. below the desired pour point and filtering to separate wax and recovering the solvent from the dewaxed oil. The wax may be repulped with solvent and filtered again, the solvent being stripped from the wax and fed to the primary filtration. The rate of flow in the primary filter stage is measured and a signal is generated which controls the temperature of the solvent to the chilling stage by altering the flow of coolant to the solvent indirect heat exchanger. Examples of solvent are aliphatic ketones, benzene, toluene, low boiling petroleum hydrocarbons, chlorinated methane compounds or suitable mixtures of these. The oils to be dewaxed may be mineral, fatty acid, fish vegetable or animal oils.
