Abstract
1325610 Polysulphide compositions SEKISUI KAGAKU KOGYO KK 16 Dec 1970 [17 Dec 1969] 59769/70 Heading C3R A one-can moisture free polysulphide polymer composition which is protected by a container from exposure to atmospheric moistures comprises (a) a liquid polysulphide polymer, preferably 100 pbw, (b) a curing agent preferably 5-20 pbw, (c) an organosilicon compound, preferably 0À5-10 pbw, having at least one Si-C bond and at least one RCOO- group bonded to silicon, wherein R is a hydrogen atom or a C 1-5 alkyl group, the organosilicon compound being capable of releasing an acid, RCOOH, upon exposure to atmospheric moisture thereby activating the curing agent and curing the polymer. Preferred silicon compounds include methyl-, ethyl-, and vinyl-triacetoxysilane, dimethyl-diacetoxy silane and methyldiacetoxy-chlorosilane. Preferred curing agents include the peroxide of Zn, Cd, Ca, Ba, Mg and Na, or MnO 2 . The hydrolysed organosilicon compounds condense through the Si-OH groups and alkoxy groups, if present, to form condensates. Suitable polysulphides are polyalkylene polysulphides of the formula where R<SP>1</SP> is a saturated aliphatic group which may also contain oxygen or sulphur atoms. Optional additives include plasticizers such as dibutyl phthalate, chlorinated paraffins or diphenyl pentachloride, fillers or pigments such as CaCO 3 , carbon black, clay or TiO 2 . Uses.-Sealants and adhesives. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 993,963.
