1324884 Herbicidal application of hydantoins VSESOJUZNY NAUCHNO - ISSLEDOVATELSKY INSTITUT KHIMICHESKIKN SREDSTV ZASCHITY RASTENY 30 Oct 1970 [3 Nov 1969] 51668/70 Heading A5E [Also in Division C2] A herbicidal preparation comprises as active ingredient a hydanton of the formula: wherein x represents hydrogen, halogen, alkyl, alkoxy or a nitro group, n is 1 or 2, R represents a C 1-4 alkyl group and Y represents -COR<SP>1</SP>, -COOR<SP>1</SP>, -COSR<SP>1</SP> or -CONHR<SP>1</SP> where R 1 is the same as R or an aryl or substituted aryl group. The above compounds may be formulated together with other herbicidal compounds, e.g. 1-phenyl-4-amino-5-chloro-pyridazone-6 or the m-carbomethoxy-amino phenyl ester of N-tolylcarbamic acid, as dusts or 40% by wt. wettable powders and they may be applied at doseage rates of 1.25 to 2.5 kg/hec. The hydantoin derivatives are particularly suitable for destroying grassy and dicotyledonous weeds.
