Abstract

1323835 Cationic dyestuffs BAYER AG 23 July 1971 [23 July 1970] 34752/71 Heading C4P The invention comprises cationic dyestuffs of the general formula wherein A completes a 5- or 6-membered ring to Which further rings may be fused, R is an aryl radical or a heterocyclic radical of aromatic character, R 1 , R 2 , R 3 , R 4 , R 5 and R 6 are each H or a non-ionic substituent, R 7 is H or an alkyl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl, or aryl radical, m is 0 or 1, n is 0 or 1 and X- is an anion. Preferably A completes a naphtholactam or acridine nucleus and R is optionally substituted phenyl or a 2- thienyl group. They are prepared by reacting compounds of the general formulae wherein A, R 5 , R 6 , R 7 and n are as above, X 1 is a radical which splits off as an anion under the reaction conditions and X<SP>1</SP> is an anion with pyrazolines of the general formula wherein R, R 1 -R 4 and m are as above in presence of a condensation agent and when R 7 is H, the product may be alkylated, cycloalkylated or aralkylated at the N atom carrying R 7 . Diphenylamine-o-carboxylic acids substituted by R 7 at the N atom which cyclise before or after reaction with the pyrazoline compound to form the ring system containing group A may be used as starting materials. The condensation agents include phosphorus oxychloride, pentoxide and pentachloride. The dyes obtained give yellow and orange shades on leather, mordanted cotton, cellulose, synthetic and acid-modified polyamides, polyurethanes, lignin containing fibres, polymers and copolymers of acrylonitrile or asymmetrical dicyanoethylene or acid modified polyesters and are also used to colour writing fluids, rubber stamp inks, printing pastes and ball-pen pastes.
