Abstract

1323519 Converting ATES COMPONENTI ELETTRONICI SpA 6 Dec 1971 [5 Dec 1970] 56445/71 Heading H2F A power supply unit for a television receiver, comprises a rectifier D 1 operative on the mains supply Vr, a first smoothing circuit C 3 and a chopping transistor TR 1 operative on the output of the first smoothing circuit, the output being regulated by means of a second transistor TR 2 shunting the base circuit of TR 1 and controlled by a signal dependent on the cathoderay tube beam current. The invention is applicable to use with an EHT supply having an impedance less than 2À5 Megohms. As described, the rectified mains supply is smoothed by C 3 and chopped by transistor TR 1 controlled by linefrequency pulses from winding T 4 of the EHT transformer TAT. The chopped output is smoothed by the primary winding T 1 of the EHT transformer TAT and by capacitor C 8 so as to provide + 32V for the rest of the receiver. The EHT transformer TAT is tuned by L 1 , L 2 , C 7 to the fifth harmonic of the flyback frequency, the EHT being produced by rectifying at D 6 , the flyback pulses induced in winding T 2 . Variation in cathode-ray tube beam current provides a corresponding variation in the voltage of pulses induced into winding T 4 ; this volatage is rectified at D 3 and used to vary the conductivity of TR 2 and hence adjust the current in the chopping transistor TR 1 . Starting arrangements.-Initially the line oscillator Os and the horizontal deflection circuit FO are driven by a potential derived from the output of rectifier D 1 via capacitor C 1 and diode D 2 . This diode isolates the starting supply when the chopper-stabilized + 32V supply is operating. Protection.-Resistor R 12 protects the circuit in the event of damage to transistor TR 1 ; dissipation on R 12 during normal operation is reduced by C 4 .
