Abstract

1322792 Universal joints A BELLOMO 7 July 1970 [12 July 1969] 32933/70 Heading F2U A homokinetic joint comprises an inner spherical member 17 with only 4n grooves 21 each engaging a ball 2 engaging a groove 22 in an inner spherical face 19 of an outer member 20, the loci 61, 6<SP>11</SP>, 8<SP>1</SP>, 8<SP>11</SP> of the grooves 21, 22 being circular arcs drawn about centres 15 of the grooves 21 on one side of the bisector plane 14 and centres 16 of the grooves on the other, the grooves 21, 22 for each ball being symmetrically inclined to the plane 14, the grooves 21, 22 in each member 17, 20 being inclined equally to the plane 14 but of alternate sign round the shaft axes, the centres 15 and 16 all being the same distance from the plane 14 when the shaft axes 23 are aligned. The cross-sections of the grooves 21, 22 may not be circular arcs, see Fig. 6.
