1322580 Coin freed vending apparatus A BURLANDO and S BOSCO 5 Oct 1970 [15 Oct 1969 17 Sept 1970] 47276/70 Heading G4V A vending machine has a number of horizontal vending units arranged both vertically and depthwise horizontally with respect to each other. Each unit is provided with an individual dispensing and change giving device and is independently removable from the machine. The machine preferably has a common set of coin slots of coin checking devices (not shown) and a common withdrawal door 42 for both the articles and the change. Operation.-In the embodiment shown packets 15 are supported by a pair of angle irons 8 which carry rollers 12 that run on rails 12<SP>1</SP> fixed to the frame of the machine. Situated between, and slidably mounted on the angle irons 8 is a rack mechanism 1, further linked to the angle irons by springs 131 (see also Figs. 3 to 8, not reproduced). The rack mechanism carries a slidably mounted box 17, which has a pivoted pawl 20, the box bearing against the packets and moving one position towards the delivery position on each reciprocation of the rack. Fixed to the rack is an arm 6 which carries spring loaded pivoted flaps 22 and 26 which ensure that only one packet is dispensed in each operation (see also Figs. 9 to 13, not reproduced). One electric motor 30 is provided for operating all the vending units, the motor reciprocating a particular rack through shaft 33 and an arm 34 which is pivoted up into contact with wheel 5 by a solenoid 35 controlled by the respective selection button 31<SP>1</SP> situated alongside an article display window 32<SP>1</SP> (see also Fig. 14, not reproduced). A cam 7 mounted on the rack pivots arm 37 to move an apertured plate 38 beneath change tubes 36, the amount of change given being controlled by the number of tubes 36 filled. In another embodiment (Figs. 16 to 20, not shown) the rack is provided with a slidable rod (43) that carries at one end the wheel 5 and at the other end a transverse rod (44). The rod (44) acts on a further slidable rod (46) which carries a packet retaining plate (50). On operation of the motor 30, the rod (43) initially slides within the rack moving plate (50) to free the packets, and then the rack itself is acted upon, pushing the packets forward and further moving plate (50), to allow one packet to be dispensed. Succeeding packets are held by an elastic flap (53) carried on a transverse horizontal arm (52).
