Abstract

1322273 Blow-moulding apparatus E LANECKERG 23 April 1971 [24 April 1970] 10943/71 Heading B5A Blow-moulding apparatus comprises a blowmould, receiving means for effecting subsequent operations on the blown article, both comprising two halves opened and closed by mould closure means, carrier means movable relatively to the closure means and having a blowing nozzle and at least one other nozzle to effect the blowing and subsequent operations, the blowing nozzle transferring a blown article from the blow mould to the receiving means when the halves are open. The receiving means may comprise testing and filling apparatus, asscoiated with testing and filling nozzles, respectively. As shown in Fig. 1, the apparatus comprises a blow mould 6, testing apparatus 7, and filling apparatus 8, mounted between mould platens 4. Blowing nozzle 27, testing nozzle 28 and filling nozzle 30 are mounted on a plate 31 which is vertically reciprocable relative to fixed carrier plate 12. A tubular parison 3 is formed by die 2 of extruder 1, with the moulds closed and plate 31 raised, the mould closure means 4/5 is moved from the Fig. 1 position to the right and plate 31 lowered to enable the extrudate to be blown by nozzle 27, the blown bottle to be tested by nozzle 28 and the tested bottle to be filled by nozzle 30. By means of cylinder 46, nozzle 28 is kept out of contact with the blown bottle 29a until the top flash is removed by pivoted striker (13, Fig. 5, not shown). Testing apparatus 7 has a porous lining, air being supplied through nozzle 28 under pressure, faulty bottles being blown off the nozzle on mould opening and acceptable bottles being subjected to a negative pressure to retain them on the nozzle. Before mould opening, nozzle 30 is raised by means of cylinder 48 to leave filled bottle 29a resting on fork 20 on mould opening, fork 20 being lowered to deliver bottle 29a on to conveyer 22. After mould opening, closure means 4/5 is moved to the left so that blow mould 6 can receive further extrudate, blown article 29 is deposited in testing apparatus 7 by nozzle 27 and tested article 29a in filling apparatus 8 by nozzle 28. In the embodiment of Fig. 4 (not shown), carrier plate 12 is reciprocated by cylinder (53) and the mould closure means 4/5 is fixed: The extruder 1 is mounted for horizontal as well as vertical movement.
